In order, to upgrade your QuickTime application or your browser's plug-in to ensure that you have the MPEG4 CODEC, follow these directions:

1) Click on the downward facing triangle in the lower right hand corner of the QuickTime video player (on the opened page).

2) Scroll down to he Plug-in settings and choose it.

3) This will bring up all possible settings for the QuickTime application and browser plug-in.

4) Go to the UPDATE tab and click on it. Make sure that you choose "Update or install Quicktime software" and click on "update now". You will now have the Software Update window open. If there is a more current version of QuickTime available, it will be on the list of possible software updates. Make sure that the QuickTime is checked for installation and click on the Install button.

5) After the update is installed you will need to restart your computer. MPEG4 streaming material will now be available to view either in the QuickTime application or within your internet browser.

Within your browser, you may need to reconfigure your preferences in order to ensure that MPEG4 streaming material can be viewed using the QuickTime plug-in. In that case go to the Preferences > Network > Protocol Helpers and set the protocol for rtsp to default to Quicktime.

Also, you have to set-up the Quicktime plug-in so that the browser can view ".mp4" files within the browser. First, make sure you have QuickTime 6 installed and then follow these instructions.

1) Click on the downward facing triangle in the lower right hand corner of the QuickTime video player (on the opened page).

2) Scroll down to he Plug-in settings and choose it.

3) With the Plug-in tab selected, go to the "MIME settings" button at the bottom of the Quicktime Settings panel and click on it.

4) Then make sure the following two headings and items within these are checked:

Streaming - Streaming Movies
RTSP stream discriptor file

MPEG - MPEG system video and audio files
MPEG - 4 media files

5) Refresh the page with the MPEG 4 streaming media embedded in them and the files should play utilizing the Quicktime Plug-in in the browser. If the media doesn't play right away try quitting out of the browser and then relaunch the page with the MPEG 4 video material.
